Why is Viva Goals being retired?

Two years ago, Microsoft introduced Viva Goals with the vision of helping teams and organisations excel through focused goal management using the OKR (Objectives and Key Results) methodology. While some customers found value in the platform, adoption across the Viva Suite customer base has not reached the levels Microsoft anticipated.

As a result, Microsoft has made the decision to deprecate Viva Goals. Over the coming months, Viva Goals will be phased out, with final retirement set for December 31, 2025.

What’s next for the Viva Suite?

Microsoft’s commitment to the Viva Suite remains strong. With millions of active users, they continue to invest heavily in areas with significant impact, at Ignite 2024, Microsoft announced exciting new capabilities for Viva, ensuring customers benefit from cutting-edge tools designed for today’s AI-driven workforce.

Here are some of the tools in the Viva suite;

• Viva Connections
• Viva Engage (formerly known as Yammer)
• Viva Glint
• Viva Insights
• Viva Learning
• Viva Pulse
• Viva Topics

Important details for current users

• Access and Data Export: Viva Goals will remain accessible until December 31, 2025, or until your license expires—whichever comes first. Users can export their data using API, Excel, or PowerPoint. We recommend completing exports before the retirement date.
• Integrations: Existing integrations with tools like Teams and Azure DevOps will remain functional until the product's deprecation.
• Support: Microsoft will maintain product support, ensuring availability, security, and troubleshooting services until Viva Goals is retired.
